Love of guitar brings varied genre artists together

FRANCISTOWN: Two critically acclaimed guitarists have merged and released a Tswana Folk album titled Tigelileni.

The two artists ,Tebogo Nkadile who goes by the stage name Ras-T and Chilume Nlebgwa said that they would always meet at constituency competitions and eventually decided to come together and form a traditional folk band called Mazganda.Com: "Our love for the guitar brought us together and we worked on this project together," said Ras-T.  Ras-T is well known for playing dancehall, a genre for which he has produced an album. He said that at first he was only familiar with playing a six-string guitar but Nlebgwa taught him the four-string, which is used in Tswana folk music: "He taught me the four-string and I taught him the six-string," said Ras-T.  The two come from two different musical backgrounds but merged for this genre because of their mutual love for the guitar.  While Ras-T is a dancehall artist, Nlebgwa has always played disco and the duo thought they could explore this cultural genre together utilizing the mutual love for the guitar. Nlebgwa said that he started playing disco music in 1999.

"I played with a group called Love and Harmony. In 2004 I played with Moxido and Lerwaza. In 2006 I released an album titled, 'Stop Littering' and in 2010 I sang with Sista B on a single titled, 'Beware of HIV and AIDS'," he stated. The album Tigelileni was released at the beginning of this month and the duo say that they are currently promoting it extensively. The album carries six songs, an intro and comedy skit in the form of a radio interview.The two said that they were always winning constituency competitions and eventually they decided to come together. "I represented Francistown East, while Chilume represented Francistown West," he added.
