Local artists back Barclays' charity

Perhaps buoyed by their affiliation to the village of Artesia, musical groups Makau and Rangers, both of which originate from the village, outdid themselves on Friday night at the Barclays Bank's Mabogo Dinku Fund-raising 2011 Concert.

This year's annual charity effort was held at Maru-a-Pula's Maitisong Theatre and was aimed at raising funds for Artesia Primary School.

The two groups, worlds apart in musical styles, featured alongside many other artists who performed free of charge to raise funds for the primary school.  Makau have made a name for themselves with their farcical infusion of music and slapstick comedy.  A Makau performance is not about the group just delivering music, it is also about them making the audience cringe and break down into uneasy laughter.  In the performance of their songs, the trio push one another around; they stumble and fall over, and expose patches sewn on to seats of their trousers.  Even their songs have comedic qualities, such as the four they performed on the night, including Ga O Ntheye, Re Jaiva and crowd-favourite Sebintjolo.
