Lerala artist eyes TAYA grand prize

The lerala artist is among the scores of art enthusiasts who gathered at Thapong Visual Arts Centre on Thursday to hear the announcement that this year's grand prize is a whopping P30 000. The soft spoken Gosego listened quietly when the announcement was made, and it is easy to assume that during the announcement, his imagination was jogged by the possibility of his winning the grand prize this year. Gosego may not have engraved his name in the folklore of the winners of the TAYA, which has been running for the last years, but the youthful sculptor reckons this may finally be his time.
This year, when submitting his sculptures for the annual President Day competitions, Gosego's works received encouraging recognition. After working from the Thapong studios for a while and submitting his works for the Gaborone region of the President competitions, Gosego was crowned the regional champion, and was awarded P1500. He managed to beat a significant number of artists in the Gaborone region, which is also considered the hub of local arts due to its proximity to Thapong Visual Arts Centre, and Gosego thinks his hour of reckoning as a Thapong Artist of repute could be near.
