Botswana's representative at the ongoing Miss Universe pageant, Larona Kgabo, aims to follow in the footsteps of icons like 2011 world 400 metres athletics champion Amantle Montsho and 1999 Miss Universe Mpule Kwelagobe by putting the country on the map.

Local organisers have said that Kgabo aims to be the second Motswana woman to wear the crown.

Earlier this week, Kgabo and the Mos Syde Group, which holds the rights to the Miss Universe Botswana pageant, arrived safely in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where this year's international pageant is being held. A press release sent to Showbiz from Brazil on Tuesday, Mos Syde Group director Safie Sekgwa urged Batswana to vote for Kgabo in order to increase her chances of getting to the finals.  "To vote for the 25-year-old beauty, Batswana should visit www.missuniverse.com as one finalist will make the Top 15 by popular online votes," he wrote. Sekgwa said that Kgabo is currently sharing her room with neighbouring beauty, Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane. Meanwhile, the preliminary show to select the Top 15 finalists has been scheduled for today.
