Jojo booked for Mugabes bash

Budding traditional artist Rejoyce Jojo Gaonakala is set to perform at President Robert Mugabes bash early next month.

Jojo will become the second local artist to feature at the annual gala after Slizer. She will go on to perform at Zimbabwe’s Independence anniversary celebrations on April 18. The promoter responsible for engaging artists for president Mugabe’s bash and the Independence Day celebrations, Gift Padro, confirmed that negotiations were at an advanced stage. Padro said they were looking for traditional musicians and believe “Jojo fits” the bill. “We are actually finalising on the arrangement. We want her to come to Zimbabwe for two shows next month for the president’s birthday celebrations and in April for our independence festival,” Padro told Showbiz.

“We needed a traditional artist this time around and we are quite pleased she is interested,” added Padro.Manicaland Province will host this year’s 21st Movement Celebrations to be graced by secretary generals of liberation movements from SADC. The commemorations are held annually to celebrate president Mugabe’s life.The main celebrations will be held at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare and 15, 000 people are expected to attend.On April 18, Zimbabwe will celebrate 32 years of independence from Britain and an array of international musicians will be part of the line-up. Jojo is excited about the prospects as this could broaden her fan base in the region with Lesotho already in the bag. The Zimbabwe independence celebrations will come a few days after her trip to Lesotho where she is billed to perform over Easter.
