I've harvested much from Ngoni - Modisane

Kopong-based painter Goemeone Modisane has said his second collaborative exhibition with Wilson Ngoni is the "right time to show art lovers what I have harvested (from Ngoni)".

Modisane was speaking to Showtime at the opening of the exhibition, aptly titled A Good Harvest.  The exhibition opened on Friday night at the Frame Gallery at the Fairground Mall, Gaborone.

The exhibition features 13 pieces by Modisane, and 21 by Ngoni who has once again departed from his iconoclastic "meleko" style. As the more experienced painter, Ngoni's work threatens to overshadow Modisane, with most of the great paintings on display belonging to the former.  One of the most memorable paintings is the warm-toned Happy To Be (oil painting on canvas), which shows a contented dancer sitting in the foreground, with a dancing troupe in the background.  Another is Young Lovers Sneaking a Kiss, which at P10, 000 is the highest priced in the exhibition, whose red-tones highlight the two 'lovers' whose faces, ironically painted in close-up, meet for a kiss.  Hand Shield's beauty really lies in its simplicity; the painting shows a close-up of a girl's face and a hand raised to shield the face, presumably from the sun.  Other memorable pieces from Ngoni are The Playing Zebras, from which one can positively feel the dust raised by the frolicking zebras, The Road to Masimo and Found Love (Lead, I Will Follow).
