MMADINARE: Artists who came to spice up the Mmadinare -Selebi Phikwe HIV/AIDS campaign held at Mmadinare kgotla last Thursday were an instant hit with the crowd especially students who came in large numbers.

The campaign, whose theme: "My behaviour, a way to change" and activities ran concurrently with those at Selebi Phikwe. It was spearheaded by the Selebi-Phikwe Eastern Military Garrison base and it brought together people of all walks and ages, primary school pupils included.

The campaign was a collaborative effort of the army and the community in stemming the tide against HIV infections. The region is hard hit and has a prevalence rate of 25 % - one of the highest in the country.  The village's theater group, 'You will never walk alone' had their audience edutained with their breathtaking performances.  The group had the audience glued to the stage as they demonstrated behaviours that fuel the spread of HIV.  It was clear from their acts that multi-concurrent partnerships, alcohol and high-risk sex, stigma and discrimination, gender violence and sexual abuse were major drivers of HIV.
