Handmade products dominate Kanye exhibition

Handmade products - most of which were made from natural resources like wood, leather and clay - dominated the World Tourism Day commemoration in Kanye.

Exhibitors mostly from the Southern part of the country took the opportunity to expose their products to a bigger audience.

From well-polished clay pots to interior decorations made from animal horns, they had it all much to the amusement of multitudes who visited the different stalls. Addressing the audience, the Minister of Environment Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila, underscored the importance of making use of the natural resources available in one's area to capitalise on the opportunities offered by the tourism industry. He noted that since there were not as many wild animals in the Southern District, as in the Chobe area, it was imperative for the people living in the south to make use of what was available to them. "You can engage in other activities such as basketry and pottery.  In fact, as we always talk of diversifying the economy it is thus important that the tourism industry itself is diversified," Mokaila said.
