The choir, under the leadership of Oarabile Bafitlhile, were crowned the winners on Saturday at the Gaborone West Community Hall, paving themselves a way to the national competitions, which will be held on July 9, 2011.

Gaborone Youth Singers, along with choirs Ntlhantlhe, Motokwe, Maikano Choristers and Moeding Alumni Choirs, competed in two rounds.  In the first round all the choirs sang the standard conducted song Sefalana, which was written by young Motswana composer Philimon Mataela for this year's Heritage Month competitions (choral category).
