Gaborone to celebrate belated Silver Jubilee

Botswana's capital city, Gaborone turned 25 last August, but due to certain challenges, the council did host any celebrations says the city's Mayor Haskins Nkaiwa. The council decided to celebrate the Anniversary (Silver Jubilee) on August 11, 2012.

Last Friday, the mayor told a gathering at the City Hall that there are numerous events billed before the big day as a fundraising initiative because they do not have enough money to make the day memorable, considering that they have been affected by recession.

On the 15th of this month there will be a cleaning campaign that will be starting from Game City to Gaborone Senior School (GSS) grounds from 7am to 2pm.On June 16 there will be a Cultural Day that will be held at Botswana Craft at 12 pm and the business community is urged to take part. "There will be entertainment from various local artists including the country's iKajazz icon Ndingo Johwa. There will also be delicious meals served," Nkaiwa told the gathering.  He said that the tickets will cost P 500 per person. Among the events will be a Fund raising activity at University of Botswana where tickets will cost P50. A dinner dance will be held at Gaborone Sun on July 7 and tickets will cost P500 per couple.
