FRANCISTOWN: The fourth edition of the local talent search, My Star held at the Adansonia Hotel drew more aspirants than it did last year. A total of 45 people tried their luck at Adansonia Hotel this year while last year, the auditions attracted only 30 contestants.

Prior to the Francistown auditions, the Botswana Television aired talent show scouted for the next Sharon in Lobatse, Maun and Palapye as the search for the ultimate winner of the P100,000 prize-money continues.Since last year, the prize money has been increased to P100,000. It is against this background that young and aspiring musicians are of the belief that the prize money is a substantial start-up for one to venture into a music career. As usual more ladies went to the auditions than their male counterparts.

Ladies have been attending the auditions of My Star in large numbers since its inception almost over a decade ago. Contestants, most of who were from the outskirts of Francistown, gave a good account of themselves in a bid to impress the judges.  They were subjected to scrutiny before they were selected to get through to the gruelling and challenging second stage of the competition. Some contestants came as far as Maun, Mahalapye, Palapye and Gaborone. This is despite the fact that the auditions have already been held in some of those areas.
