Enthralling show by virtuoso pianist

Alexis Golovin, a world renowned Swiss pianist, was brought to Maitisong by the French Embassy and the Alliance Franaise last Thursday to play Chopin and Liszt.

Golovin lives, plays and teaches in Geneva, Switzerland. He was born 67 years ago in Moscow, then the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR). He still performs in Russia at various venues including the State Philharmonic Orchestra. He has recorded many CDs. Golovin has also travelled widely.  On this tour he will perform in a number of Southern African countries, courtesy of the Alliance Francaise.

As a solo performer his main requirements are a perfectly tuned grand piano and a sensitive audience. Maitisong didn't let him down, though one treble note on the Yamaha grand was off and many young children new to classical music preferred to fan themselves with the Maitisong concert programme, causing a visual and audible disturbance. For those near the orchestra pit the squeak of a pedal was discernable. Audiences in Gaborone also need to learn when to applaud and when not to. Unfortunately too often a pause was assumed to be the end of a piece and applause would erupt. He was a very tolerant pianist.
