In recent years, many local musicians see poor album sales due to the economic crunch.

But, while it could be true that many people have sacrificed a lot of luxuries like music for basic necessities, it could be argued that many local artists seem to either lack creativity or have been derailed by the lure of a quick buck.

The emergence of a new sound, Kwaito kwasa, in the early 2000s was hailed as a positive move which signalled the growth of Botswana' music industry. A name synonymous with this sound is Vee (Odirile Sento) who set the music scene alight with his album, Taku Taku.
