Cultural village to tell the Bakalanga story

The Domboshaba Cultural Trust, which organises the annual Domboshaba Cultural Festival and promotes Ikalanga as well as other indigenous languages, is working on a proposal to build a cultural village.

Endorsed by Bakalanga chiefs during a well attended meeting in August 2005, the project is aimed at realising the full cultural rights for Bakalanga and putting Ikalanga in its rightful place among other indigenous languages.

"This village would be a physical expression of the pride that Bakalanga have in their culture and heritage and serve as the flagship for preserving the heritage assets and reviving and developing Ikalanga," Domboshaba Cultural Trust Public Engagement Secretary Kanganwane Phatshwane recently told a Francistown full council session.
