CitieTown shines at Cape jazz debut

CAPE TOWN: On March 26 when the Zebras eventually "came out of the Whipping boys age" local jazz guitarist Ntsholeng 'Citie' Seetso became the first Motswana artist to perform at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF).

Fittingly wearing a replica Zebras All Kasi jersey, bearing No. 6 and his name, Citie was making a debut Motswana performance at the festival alongside legend guitarist John Blackie Selowane, his sister Lapologang Seetso on vocals, Blessing Maphosa on keyboard, bass guitarist Kabelo Tamukate, Andrew Chinganga on saxophone, Dingalo Mpolaise playing percussion and a 17-year-old Wynton Senwelo on drums.

Citie's performance was turned into a celebratory get-together by dozens of Batswana revellers at the event as they flew their blue, white and black stripes flags high because the news from N'djamena in Chad reached Cape Town just minutes before he started to perform. "Tell them that Zebras have won" most could be heard shouting from the crowd asking Citie who appeared unclear whether he was in the know of the results. Among the fascinated revellers watching the historic performance at the Basil "Mannenberg" Coetzee stage was Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Myra Sekgororoane and the seemingly impressed Leader of the Opposition Botsalo Ntuane.
