Cany M and Mapetla back in studio

Mapetla and producer Kenny Makenzo aka Cany M are back again in the studio trying to re-work the formula that gave birth to the magic of 2007, when their kwaito production, Phanz' Phezulu catapulted Mapetla to stardom.

Mapetla has since released two albums, Sibuyile and Grootman, but none of them have cemented his reputation in the dance scene that is being dominated by new urban flavours from South Africa and lately West Africa.

Cany M has told Showbiz that he is in the process of finalising a new release for Mapetla, who has also been making appearances on Btv, presenting his own show, Shaya MaGet Down. The Botswana urban music industry has generally been in a lull for the last two years with no one matching the likes of Big Nuz, Black Coffee, Professor, Zakes Bantwini, all dominating the scene from Mzansi.  Cany M meantime, also released a house album, Cotton Candy more than a year ago, which failed to rule the dance scenes.  The latest offering by the duo of Cany M and Mapetla, therefore, comes at a time when many are wondering whether Botswana music production has regressed in such a short space of time.
