Bhudaza impresses Gabz revellers

The highly-anticipated Mascom Live Session show on Saturday at the Botswanacraft lived up to its top billing as afro jazz maestros, Socca Moruakgomo, Bhudaza and African Jazz Pioneers thrilled the jazz-thirsty patrons.

Although the temperatures had drastically dropped, revellers braved the weather and attended the show in huge numbers. The headliners,  The African Jazz Pioneers, had to perform more songs than they had prepared because the audience demanded more.

As the band members were packing their equipment the unfazed night crawlers refused to let go, shouting, "We want more, we want more".  First to warm the stage and welcome the visitors was Moruakgomo. Bhudaza, who was undoubtedly the most sought-after singer, did not disappoint. Most revellers seemed familiar with songs from his first album, Bo-Mapefane as they sang along with him.  He set the mood mostly for women, starting his performance with the song Gera, with its popular catch-phrase, Ntshune ke go sune babe. Doing wonders with his trumpet the Lesotho-born jazz sensation was a marvel to watch.  But the show had not begun until he had sung Mokete O Senang Nama. Bhudaza, who mixes his singing with much laughter, could not stop giggling as the audience sang back to him. The Johannesburg-based Africa Jazz Pioneers may not be as popular as Bhudaza but they equally lived up to their billing.
