Batswana artists develop knack for graffiti

Imagine waking up in the morning to a fresh easterly breeze enjoying the scenery of your home with its high walls. Then while strolling around the yard to see how the neighbourhood looks you find a painting of some clawed animal with rhino-like horns.

The picture was not there when you arrived from a local eatery last night but there it is on your electric-fenced wall. While still trying to figure out who put up this gory image on the wall thoughts of what it could mean conjure up in your mind and you look confused. Most people would react to such a scenario with fear or anger, or even both.  This is graffiti, one of the oldest forms of street-art that thrills those who are involved in it while it angers a lot of property owners.

According to Oracle Thinkquest Education Foundation website, graffiti has been around for millions of years. According to the website, Romans wrote on walls of buildings they conquered while cave men drew illustrations on cave walls. In the United States of America (US), it started as tagging one's name on a street sign then gangs used it as a way to mark their territory and not long after that graffiti became an art form.
Graffiti artists just find it hard to resist the lure of spoiling people's properties because, according to them, going around making such paintings is simply a form of expression.
