Batshu praises eye-opening ditshwanelo film festival

Acting Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Edwin Batshu has commended the longest running film festival in the country for continuing, through films, to raise awareness of human rights issues.

Officially opening the 11th Annual Ditshwanelo Human Rights Film Festival at the Audio-Visual Centre at Maru-a-Pula school on Thursday, Batshu said the films the festival has exhibited over the years have indeed enlightened Batswana on issues they would otherwise never have been aware of.

Batshu told the fully-packed auditorium that Botswana subscribes to the notion that all humans are born free, and that the country has taken positive steps to ensure that all citizens have access to all fundamental rights, including freedoms of the press, association and religion.
