Bakgatla songs thrill multitudes

Multitudes braved the biting cold on Saturday morning to enjoy the spectacle that is Bakgatla male initiation procession.

Numbering close to 2,000, the initiates and their relatives marched in a single file from Molapong, just behind a hill next to the Deborah Memorial Hospital (DMH),.  The initiates were geared in cultural attire; a coat made from animal hide and wooden rods decorated with white ostritch feathers.

After waiting for the procession from 7am, it was not until around 8:30am that the procession appeared, and hundreds of tourists lined up the road from DMH to the Kgotla, as some cheered on their relatives in the procession.
