Artists transform Thapong Centre's landscape

Thapong Visual Arts Centre has undergone a facelift, thanks to the organisation's resident artists. When you pass by Thapong these days, you would realise that it is an arts centre.

The artists have put up exterior artistic work that has transformed the centre's landscape. When you visit the centre, you would be welcomed by the sculpture pieces that have been mounted in the yard.

Parts of the buildings have also been painted in artistic colours.  Artists' murals have also been mounted on Thapong buildings.  Just as you walk towards the back of the centre, you meet more sculpture designs.  One of the designs is a borehole water fountain.  The coordinator of Thapong, Reginald Bakwena, said the landscape of the centre had been a concern to them for quite sometime because it was not depicting art.   Bakwena said this is why the resident artists decided to come up with decorations to revamp the place.  They started the project towards the end of last year and it is still ongoing.  Bakwena, who is also a renowned artist, said the artists who came up with the idea were volunteering their services.  He said they want to come up with the decorations to welcome visitors to the centre.  "As an art centre, we want to reflect that spirit," he said.  "We want to decorate even at the back so that people can see new developments."
