Artists to get royalties for content played on Yarona fm

Artists will get royalties for musical content that will be played on Yarona fm, following the station's announcement that it has signed an agreement to comply with the regulations of the Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS).

The station says that it started paying royalties in the last quarter of 2012.  Yarona fm Station Manager Owen Rampha explained that they had always been aware of the need for royalties to be paid to artists, highlighting that royalties are crucial for artists' survival.

"Yarona fm will continue to support all endeavours that contribute towards the welfare of local artists. Coming to an agreement with COSBOTS demonstrates our commitment to investing in our industry," said Rampha.The Chief Executive Officer for COSBOTS Thato Mokobi commended Yarona fm, adding that Yarona fm is now officially and effectively licenced and authorised through the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act CAP 68:02 to 'use' copyrighted works, for the duration of the licence, without fear or favour.
