A night of 600 trees

Rarely do we find a dinner dance where at the end of the night patrons are given plants to go and grow in their homes.

Six hundred plants were distributed to patrons at the Kalahari Conservation Society (KCS) annual gala dinner held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) on Saturday.  The patrons, as they dined and wined, were also reminded of the upcoming  World Tree Planting Day towards the end of this month, and everyone was encouraged to plant  at least one tree this year, as Botswana commemorates this day.

Indeed it was an evening of trees at the gala dinner where not less than four small trees planted in boxes, decorated each table.  varying wines also decorated the hall and the tables, while talented veteran muso, Clement Jackson, the father to the youthful Afropop star Eugene Jackson, provided some smooth dinner tunes on the night. According to the master of ceremonies (MC) for the night, folklore performer Ntirelang Berman also represented  an aspect of cultural conservation just as KCS is famed for natural conservation. The MC, Hastings Chikoko thought Ntirelang's music reminded him of moonlit nights in the Okavango Delta.
