'Women are equal before the law'

A dam's Rib (1949) a.k.a Man and Wife is being shown today only at 7 p.m. at the Maru a Pula School, A/V Centre (Gaborone Film Society).

Adam's Rib was the third movie Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn made together. They play a legal couple, but not a legal team. Adam Bonner (Tracy) is an Assistant District Attorney awed in Manhattan, New York City. Amanda Bonner (Hepburn) is an attorney in private practice on the island. When Adam is assigned to prosecute a case against Dorris Attinger (Judy Holliday, of "born Yesterday" fame) for attempted murder, Amanda has other ideas about who has done what and why and what she might do about it.

Dorris is shown in the opening sequences following her husband Warren (Tom Ewell) to a tryst and then trying to shoot him and his new girlfriend, Beryl Caighn (Jean Hagen), with her eyes closed. Yes, this is a romantic comedy, as real murders do it with their eye wide open.
