Who deserves to be called producer?

It is appalling how many of our own artists do not know what a producer is or why they have credited someone in their CD sleeve as producer. Even some people who claim to be producers cannot explain what they mean by 'the producer'.

This has often resulted in people fighting for credits and at times royalties. Take for instance, a producer who does not know how to play a music instrument let alone write lyrics. This may sound odd, but it is the reality of the situation in the music industry.
