Art is slowly taking shape in this country in that while the Department of Youth and Culture is aggressively promoting it among the youth, there are yet other organisations dedicated to promoting it, and encouraging cross border interactions for skills transfer.

One of the organisations is Alliance Francaise of Gaborone, which has arranged a tapestry exhibition, which officially opened on Tuesday and is scheduled to run until April 8 at the National Museum Main Gallery.  Sponsored by the National Museum and Elliot International, the exhibition has some fascinating artworks on display by three groups - The Keiskamma Trust (South Africa), the Lentswe la Oodi Producers Cooperative and Baikagi, both local. To add extra colour to the event, the exhibition has an informal workshop for women from the three groups to meet and exchange skills.

The tapestry on display is not only expressive but also very educative. The works are designed such that the viewer can with little or no difficulty at all tell a story from the beautiful artworks. For this particular exhibition, the Keiskamma Trust chose their works of different embroideries, which tell the story of the Eastern Cape from a woman and cattle perspective.
