The Death of Mr Lazarescu (2006) a.k.a Moartea Domnului Lazarescu is being shown today (September 23) only at 7 pm at the A/V Centre at Maru a Pula School. It is the first of two award winning Romanian films. Next week, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days will be shown.

The Death of Mr Lazarescu was awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2006 and has won many other awards, including the Spirit Award as Best Foreign-language Film. It is the first of the director's six films on love, beginning with the absence of love.This is a most unusual film. It begins like a dull documentary. But if you persevere over its two-and-a-half hours you will find it growing slowly on you.
