Sky is the limit for gospel presenter

The presenter of Botswana Television (Btv) gospel programme, Melodi ya Kgalaletso, Ellen Isaacs has been keeping the fires burning after her co-pilot, Joel Keitumetse left for Mokaragana.

Since Keitumetse left to host the more vibrant Mokaragana, Isaacs has been in control of the Sunday programme but she has not faulted.  Every Sunday, gospel lovers are glued to their television screens to see the petite Isaacs presenting the popular show.
Isaacs started presenting the programme with Keitumetse in 2003.  They were selected from more than 500 candidates who attended the auditions.
Isaacs recalls that she had stage fright on her debut presentation.  However, she was encouraged by her co-presenter, Keitumetse. After the first show, Isaacs said she waited for the response of people who are closer to her.
I wanted to hear how people would respond, she said.
The response was positive and this kept her going.  She was then looking forward to the next show and from then on, she gained confidence especially with Keitumetse by her side.
Isaacs said she enjoyed working with Keitumetse because he is a jolly good fellow.  I think I learnt much from him.  He is one of the people who gave me confidence to continue with the show.  It was great fun working with him, she said.
She still keeps in touch with Keitumetse and they remain friends.
She said Keitumetse gave her room to express herself and show her talent as well.
However, Isaacs said she is coping even though she presents the show alone.
She said in order for one to present a gospel show, he/she should be informed about the Bible and the Christian faith.  She added that one also needs to be confident.
You also must display some degree of maturity because you would be dealing with different people.
You should also be positive in whatever you say.
Isaacs said she has always followed gospel music.  She is also from a Christian family.
Her father died when she was doing Standard Two.  She said her family always had their hopes and trust in God and this is what kept them going.
I think Christianity is one of the things that made me what I am, she said.
I feel humbled that I am able to touch peoples hearts in a positive way, she said. Producing the programme, she said, involves teamwork.  Isaacs works hand in hand with the producer on the programme.
On some occasions, she conducts research for her programme, and keeps herself going by reading inspirational books and magazines.
Isaacs describes herself as somebody who is positive with life in general.
Although she presents a gospel programme, Isaacs has never regarded herself as a musician.  I am not a talented singer, she confesses.
Regarding the standard of local music, she believes that Rome was not built in a day.  With more time our music, in general, will improve.
Ironically, Isaacs never aspired to be a TV personality.  She said she was just invited by a friend for auditions.
I grew up as a shy person, but once I started working for a television I realised that it has nothing to do with being shy.
Isaacs said being television presenter has not changed her life.  Im still Ellen as I have always been.  Nothing has changed, the only difference is that more people now know me.
Isaacs was born in Serowe in the 80s but grew up in Mahalapye.  After completing her secondary education she attended a number of courses.
She has also worked for local organisations like PSI, as a counsellor.  She also wrote religious articles for the defunct vernacular newspaper, Mokgosi.
At the moment she is running her business, selling fashionable clothing that she orders from overseas.
