Shaikarawe hosts 3rd Kuru mini-dance festival

The village of Shaikarawe, just outside Shakawe, this weekend hosts the third mini Kuru festival, where eight dance groups from the eight peripheral villages are billed to participate in unique Basarwa dance movements and dances.

The event, which will start on Saturday morning, will see the groups showcase various Basarwa movements such as Yeuei, Xana, and Ndingo.

Participating villages are Dobe, Tsodilo, Kaputwa, Tobere, Mogotlho, Gudigoa, Mohembo, and the hosts Shaikarawe. It is the first Kuru dance event in the Okavango sub-district, according to the spokesman for Kuru organisation in the area, Galefele Maokeng.The first mini event was held in West Hanahai in the Gantsi District, where 25 Basarwa cultural groups participated and shared knowledge on cultural issues. The event would later move to a settlement called Qabo, also in the Gantsi District.
