Promoters must protect musicians from adoring fans

The safety of artistes looked compromised last weekend in Jwaneng when the backstage was invaded by women fans, screaming after kwaito master Odirile Vee Sento and his crew, while many others just wanted to touch South African DJ Big T of the controversial kwaito song, Sister Bertinah.

For the backstage to be accessed as easily as that was testimony to the fact that the show 's organisers did not view security as seriously as they should have.

It looked like the fans never had problems going back and forth between the hall and the backstage. From the moment Vee and his crew arrived in Jwaneng in the early hours of Saturday, fans could be seen milling around his minibus shouting his name.
