Portuguese film festival at various museums

The first Portuguese speaking countries film festival is being taken to various Museums in Botswana so that what was enjoyed in Gaborone can also be appreciated elsewhere in the country.

Last week, it was in Serowe and this week, it is in Kanye. After that, it will tour Southern Africa.  In July, it was launched at the Little Theatre at the National Museum, Monuments and Art Gallery.

The movie that opens the festival is credited to Brazil, The Language, but it is far greater than any one nation. Portuguese is spoken by 280 million people in many countries around the world. Perhaps in Botswana it is well- known that Portuguese is the dominant lingua franca in Portugal, Europe, and in Mozambique and Angola in Africa. All the other places where Portuguese is spoken may not be so familiar?  Portuguese explorers around the world left significant marks in unusual places. Their crosses were erected centuries ago in South Africa (by Diaz below Bushmans River mouth), Namibia (by Diego Co at Cape Cross) and elsewhere. Portugal only has 10 million residents, while Brazil has 170 million; Angola's and Mozambique's population is 8 million each.
