The President's Day arts competition/celebration at Maru-A-Pula school's Maitisong Theatre, one of many competitions planned in honour of the country's incumbent, was a stunning display of Batswana's talents in the areas of choral music and the increasingly popular poetry.

Despite the cold, Batswana and quite a number of foreigners packed the theatre to witness the competitors, drawn from the four corners of Botswana, battle it out for the ultimate prize: P25, 000 for the choral section, and P10, 000 for poetry.

The event started off with a singing of the national anthem by all the choirs vying for the prize and title. In his brief opening remarks, the representative from the Department of Arts and Culture said that the contestants were selected from the best choirs in their regions. He said that the competition was a way of activating, encouraging, and furthering artistic endeavours in Botswana. He called on all donors to follow their footsteps and help promote the arts in Botswana.
