Musicians against AIDS drive gathers steam

The musicians against HIV and AIDS campaign continues this Saturday at River Walk shopping mall where a host of local artistes and celebrities will converge to sensitise the public about the dangers of the disease.

The first show was held at the same venue last month. The man behind the campaign Roger Madison of Stage Zone has told Show Bizz that this was a joint venture between him and Nosy Road band. Madison has also disclosed that they have decided to include more people so that they can reach a larger audience.
"There will be this celebrity testing by Shombie from Gabs FM, the Zebras for Life campaign with some of the players also taking part. We will also have the Tebelopele mobile Testing, Botswana Red Cross Society and Youth Health Organisation (YOHO) at the show," Madison said.
A host of DJs from local radio stations are also expected to participate in the day-long event which will also see the likes of Nosy Road playing live music.
Other artistes on show will be Wrust, Stane, Skin Flynt, SMS Blues Stepping Razor and Socca Moruakgomo. The show kicks off at 10am and ends at 5pm.
Other non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which are expected to take part at the event, include Botswana Network of Law and HIV/AIDS(BONELA) Botusa and Botswana Harvard Partnership, Madison said.
"We want the music to pull the crowd and then these various organisations will get the chance to market themselves and their services. The artistes will also get a chance to speak about AIDS," he said. Dan Tshanda and Splash were scheduled to perform at the event but Madison explained that they could not source enough sponsorship to have the South African disco family on board.
However, Tshanda will get another chance to speak about HIV/AIDS.
