Music: Elvis took pop music to new crescendo

Music lovers in Botswana and elsewhere in the region recently joined the international community in marking the death of one of the world's most accomplished musicians, Elvis Presley of the United States of America.

Evils died of drug related complications in August 1977. He did not event rock 'n' roll but made it immensely popular, especially in the early 1950s and 1960s. He was a charismatic and handsome performer who enthralled his audiences with his scintillating performances.
Popular music, of which rock 'n' roll is an integral part, can be defined as music, which is aimed at the populace rather than an elite.

But its abbreviated form 'pop' has been used since the 1950s, covering music as diverse as "Sex Pistols" and Sir Cliff Richard. Rock 'n' roll is defined as a form of hastened rhythmic blues, evolving from rhythm and blues, which is meant for dancing.
