Mma Ramotswe movie boosts global interest in Bots music

Mudhut Studios, the company that compiled local music for use as soundtracks to the No.1 Lady's Detective Agency movie, says there is a growing international interest in Botswana's music as a result of the popular drama.

In a phone interview Solomon Monyame, the Mudhut studios boss, told Showbiz that he is inundated with enquiries from music publishing as well as film-making companies in the United States of America (US) and Europe, seeking to exploit Botswana music.The music was exposed to the international audience in a big way thanks to the Mma Ramotswe movie, which has been aired in the United Kingdom (UK) and US over the last two years.

With an estimated   of over 20 million fans of the Mma Ramotswe character, multinational record companies   believe they can cash in on Botswana music to help diversify the industry.
