Mahube journal launched

Scores of literature lovers converged on the Falcon Crest in Gaborone on Monday evening to mark the launch of an anthology of Batswana writers and poets namely Mahube Volume 1.

Speaking at the event, the Charge d' Affaires at the US embassy (Gaborone), Philip Drouin said that the launch of the Mahube journal is a milestone in empowering local writers with an avenue to showcase their considerable and commendable talents.
"From time immemorial, poets have played an integral part in activities of all Batswana, and indeed those of many other African cultures the breadth and width of this magnificent continent where I have sojourned for much of my diplomatic career," said the diplomat.

Drouin added that much of African culture and history have been lost through unrecorded poems and stories told by the ancestors. The importance of recording and sustaining publications of literary works of art could never be overemphasized, Drouin said.
