'Local cartoon markets harder to find'

FRANCISTOWN: Though cartoon images create in our minds pictures that stick with us, 19-year-old Gomolemo Kalayakgosi laments that such an art form is ignored in the country.

He said in developed countries, the influence of cartoons has been used to full advantage. In some countries, artists have used cartoons to help topple unpopular regimes, imprison unscrupulous politicians, win elections, address societal ills, win support for wars, and to just help readers laugh at themselves.

The significance of cartoons and caricatures is often overlooked in preference to their jocose aspects, yet their power and pervasiveness cannot be ignored.
