Lady luck smiles on Kgokgonono

Lady luck has smiled on Borankana artist Montsho 'Kgokgonono' Bautu, the Kanye-based musician who only released his debut album called Lokgalela, a few months ago.

The youngster is relatively an unknown and his album has only sold a few hundreds of copies, but already it has caught the attention of a prominent South African music promoter, Bae Pane, who has bought the rights to distribute it in South Africa.According to the deal, the Kurumane-based businessman will have exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the album in South Africa and other countries except Botswana. This also means the musician will no longer be allowed to export the album or part of it to South Africa.

But this should not bother Bautu so much because the deal has earned him a cool P60, 000, which he could have struggled to raise if he were to market the album himself."I feel lucky and at the same time it tells me that there is quality in what I did because he(Pane) heard this album playing at the Kanye bus rank and immediately enquired from one of the drivers and they gave him my numbers. It was his first time to hear it and he was impressed at the first go," Bautu said confidently. The South African promoter also has the rights to remix and reproduce the songs in Lokgalela and is entitled to 100 percent of the royalties.
