Kgope scoops Thapong Artist of the Year, 2009

Scores of visual artists, art-lovers, connoisseurs converged on Thapong Visual Arts Centre to witness the annual Thapong Artist of the Year Awards (TAYA) and exhibition, which were graced by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Gladys Kokorwe, last Saturday.

Speaking about this year's awards, the coordinator of Thapong, Reginald Bakwena said, "Thapong Artist of the Year, 2009 features art in all its diversity such as photography, installations, painting, drawing, sculpture and craft. The overall improvement of the presentations indicates a greater understanding of the chosen medium and a developing creativity."

Bakwena hoped the exhibition would create dialogue between artists and the community, which in turn would assist artists in defining their direction both at home and abroad.
