It pays to know your status

Local music promoter, Roger Madison believes musicians have the power to change attitudes towards HIV/AIDS and should use their popularity to encourage people to test for HIV/ AIDS.

Recently, Madison teamed up with among others Soccer Moruakgomo, Nosey Road and Dan Tshanda of Splash and staged a show at River Walk mall where the fight against HIV/AIDS took centre stage, with Tshanda giving a motivational speech.
American born Madison told ShowBiz that his main focus is to get as many people as possible tested hence he has termed his campaign: It pays to know your status. His campaign continues on June 30 when he, along with a host of local artistes, including Tshanda whom he is managing, will test in public. That, he hopes, will encourage ordinary people to do the same.
During the last show Tshanda only appeared as guest speaker but, according to Madison, the Splash boss will this time perform along with Nosey Road.
I hope we will be able to get even radio personalities to join in. It is disturbing that only half of the countrys population has tested. We have to find other ways of getting more people to test, Madison said.
As an incentive those who agree to test with Madison and the artistes will be eligible for a draw where the winner will be selected to be a spokesperson for the campaign.
Two tickets are available for two lucky people to go and watch Splash shows in the United Kingdom (UK) in August but they should have tested to qualify. The rewards do not stop there. It pays to know your status event will take place in Gaborone at a venue yet to be announced.
This one will be a family event which will start 10:00 am, and again there will be many incentives for those who would have tested. The entry fee is P40 but those who would produce proof that they have tested in the last year or so will get in free and there will be a testing booth for those wishing to test, he said.
According to Madison, the first 500 people who have tested will also be given free T-shirts bearing, It has paid me to test message.
The winner of the London tour will also be announced at the end of the show, while all the Dalom Music groups will perform along Nosey Road and other local groups.
