I'm not the disco type - Shirley

Borankana icon Shirley Mokoka says she will never trade disco for borankana rhythm, stressing that not a disco track will appear on her forthcoming album to be released under South African Disco stable, Dalom music of Dan Tshanda.

Mokoka says she is yet to finalise contract details with Dalom but she was quick to rubbish claims that she will be doing some disco just like everyone at Dalom. There is not a single artist at Dalom Music Stable who is not doing disco. Even Donald Botshelo, who marked his arrival onto the pop scene with a Tracy Chapman like vocals, has since changed his style to disco. However, Mokoka, who has two albums under her belt, says she is a borankana singer proper, and would not dare change her style.

" I'm not going to create any confusion for myself and my audience; when my album comes out, there will be no disco in it, that's what you should know, it will be a better, improved Borankana quality instead," she said after talk that Dalom boss Tshanda has disco plans for her.  " I would not mind featuring in Don B, or Matshikos, or any Dalom's album doing disco for them, but I would not do disco for my album, that is not going to happen," she said in an interview with Showbiz.
