Makawana A Pina, a local gospel group comprising members of the Methodist Church of Southern African from a number of congregations, is this weekend organising a concert billed for Babusi Community Hall in Newstance.

Various gospel groups, including Amadodana Ase Wesile, a South African gospel group, and Ikonzo Ya Mawesile, another gospel group from Kurumane, South Africa, and the organisers (Makawana A Pina), will be showcasing their singing prowess.
According to the Makawana A Pina Publicity Secretary, Moses Motshelamadi, the concert is an effort to start a mutually beneficial collaboration with the two South African groups. The group (Makawana), which was formed in 2003, has been unable to record its debut album because of lack of funds.
Motshelamadi explained that the Saturday event is intended to raise funds so the group could record its first 12-track album. The 16-member ensemble has only been performing at concerts and special occasions such as weddings. The concert continues on Sunday with all the groups, except for Amadodana Ase Wesile, participating.
The Sunday event will however be raising funds for the Extension 12 Methodist Church, which is currently being extended. The "magnificent 16" come from a number of Methodist congregations in Botswana, namely, Mochudi, Ramotswa, Extension 12, and Broadhurst. People intending to attend the shows need not worry as the organisers have confirmed that they have "hired security officers to ensure the safety of patrons and their property".
