Gaborone Youth Singers (GYS) celebrated their 10th anniversary at Maitisong over the weekend in style. The choir is rated under the standard category, which comprises 80 members.

The event featured Lesotho's Mohapeloa singers as well. Other choirs were Dinare choristers and Molelopole-based traditional outfit, Digwana. There were three sessions and each choir was given four songs to sing on the stage. Digwana Traditional Dance was allocated two songs, while Molodi wa Koma did not turn up.

With their sweet voices and dancing styles, Mohapeloa impressed the audience, who responded by dancing and singing with the choir, which comprises elderly men and women. The master of the ceremonies also kept the audience entertained as he mimicked the Sothos in speaking Sesotho. During an interview with Arts & Culture, the vice chairperson of Gaborone Youth Singers Killer Madiba said: "We are happy to be celebrating our10th anniversary because we have come a long way. In fact, this is just the beginning as we are preparing for bigger occasions." He added that they had invited Mohapeloa from Lesotho to promote the relationship they have forged with them. He said they were charging P100 (reserved seats) and P70. "We hiked our charges purposely because we wanted to restrict the number of people coming to our celebrations. The money is just for paying bills for hiring the place," said Madiba.
