For the first time ever, Batswana will have an opportunity to enjoy a full opera concert this Sunday courtesy of WeSSide Entertainment and the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC), who will be hosting the event.

According to Olivier Prentout of WeSSide Entertainment, GICC will host Iolanta, a one-act opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Iolanta is the story of a blind princess who in a symbolic if unlikely denouement, finds that true love is enough to make one to see. The works will be performed by 65 opera and orchestra members of the Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet theatre, which is one of the oldest known theatres of Russia, which opened in 1912. "Lovers of opera should not be worried that the opera would be performed in a foreign language since big screens would be available for translation," he says.

According to Prentout, the performers will present Iolanta and extracts from Eugene Onegin with 16 singers and an orchestra of more than 40 players under the baton of the Russian conductor, Sergey Ferulev.
