Change of guard at BOMU likely

Indications are that the Botswana Music Union (BOMU) will be under a new leadership when the association holds its delayed annual general meeting later this month.

The union could have elected its new executive last year but members were asked to remain in office until they finished organising the 2007 BOMU music awards, which were marred by controversy. Apparently, only two committee members have declared their interest in running while others, among them, president Phempherethe Pheto and communications officer Seabelo Modibe, are not seeking re-election.

In an interview with Showbiz yesterday, BOMU secretary general Nkgopolang Tlhomelang said presently, only a few people have registered to stand for elections to be held at Gaborone Civic Centre on February 21. Zenzele Hirschfeld of Zen Promotions will be vying for the vice presidency, Rasina Rasina for the post of secretary-general while Percy Bakwena intends to oust popular Kwasa Kwasa artist Alfred Mosimanegape as treasurer. Otsile Ramorwa is campaigning for research and development while Btv's Mokaragana presenter and gospel musician Joel Keitumele intends to become the communications officer.
