SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botswana Defence Force (BDF) bands have introduced classical music to give their audience a chance to experience different music genre.

Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, Major Philip Modise said they are now using a mass band unlike before when bands were playing differently. He observed that when they played classical music in Selebi-Phikwe it was not well received in contrast with Francistown where the audience understood it. He explained that it was an indication that residents of this town expected them to start the show with high-tempo music.

"We intend to continue educating people on this type of music as time goes on and we will keep on playing it. We are showing people the massive talent that we have in the BDF. Some of the classics that we played included Battle of hymn of the Republic, Minuet for clarinet and Military band by W.A Mozart. We also played a disco classic of Kool and the Gang called Celebration," he said.
