She said after a decision to relocate to South Africa, keeping her office in Gaborone was not easy so she had no alternative but to close it in preparation of opening an agency in Johannesburg. She pointed out that while she will be operating from Johannesburg she has no intentions of closing her doors to Batswana aspiring to become models.
Mbewe's agency might have been quiet for sometime, but she has been working tirelessly at changing the face of her agency, or rather improving the services to best suit her clients. To avoid identity problems the Johannesburg agency will be trading as Base Connections, because the name Base Models already exists in South Africa.
To many young hopefuls the new Base Connections maybe more appealing in that Mbewe as assured Showbiz that she has added a new service to give her clients value for money in terms of exposure and marketing of their portfolios.
She has told Showbiz that she is introducing Internet modelling to her clientele and individuals who may be interested in joining the modelling world. She said the Base Connections website is being designed and will be launched soon.
Mbewe has scheduled auditions in five countries - Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. The auditions will select a pool of models who will appear on the website. The agency however will still engage in other methods of promoting its models, including getting them jobs in their areas of interest.
