Limkokwing University suspends student leaders

Limkokwing University management suspended members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) yesterday with immediate effect following unrest at the Block Seven Campus in Gaborone last Friday. The suspension will last two weeks.

Limkokwing public relations manager, Mercy Bonnie Thebe said the unrest was caused by a group of students led by the SRC. The students were not happy about the late payment of book allowances by the Department of Tertiary Education and Funding (TDEF).

Thebe revealed that the students went around the campus, causing disharmony, interrupting lectures, verbally and physically abusing others and intimidating university staff. "The university is deeply concerned by the events of Friday afternoon.  Internal investigations assisted by the Botswana Police have begun to find out who could have initiated this wayward behavior. Meanwhile normal business has resumed and measures to ensure the safety of both students and staff have been put in place," Thebe said.
