The fight was reportedly ignited by factionalism ahead of the BDP’s 37th Elective Congress in Tonota. As things stand now, the complainant, Otto Masogo is giving conflicting statements whether he will forgive his fellow democrats or allow the case, that is already before the magistrate’s courts, to be completed using the legal route.

Chidzani Mokgwebe, Boago Phiri and Otsile Moses are accused of assaulting Masogo at Donga Junior Secondary School on March 11. The State alleges that the trio slapped Masogo on the face and also used chairs and desks during the said assault at a BDP function.

In an interview with this publication, Masogo said he heard rumours that the accused want to reconcile with him but they were yet to approach him about the issue.

He said: “For now I cannot forgive them because they have not approached me. I cannot talk about forgiveness if anyone has not approached me.

The accused have no right to talk to me, but I may consider going

that route if they send a genuine emissary to me in a bid to solve the matter out of court. I am a human being.

The accused should also show that they are very sorry for their actions and are not playing to the gallery before I consider to forgive them or not”.

Prominent Francistown attorney, Keitshegile Sechele represents the accused.

Recently, Sechele prayed for the matter to be postponed to another date for status hearing, after he said the accused instructed him to inform the court that they were exploring possibilities of whether Masogo would accede to their overtures for reconciliation or not.

State attorney Archie Makgoa did not oppose the application to postpone the matter.

Magistrate Lebogang Kebeetsweng adjourned the matter to October 9 for status hearing. Before the BDP congress, Masogo was a well-known sympathiser of the Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s faction while the accused, just like their political grandmaster, Ignatius Moswaane were on the side of the vanquished Nonofo Molefhi.
