Introduction

Is it permissible in law for an employee of a trade union (union staff) to double as a trade union officer (or Official)? This subject matter, which has been with us for some time now, usually elicits two opposing views. On one hand are those who see it as a straightforward matter: the law simply does not permit this. On the other hand some have maintained that it is indeed permissible in law and practice.
